Tips To Control Mosquitoes In Your Backyard During The Summer

Many people look forward to summer, but unfortunately, that season also brings out mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are especially annoying pests — not only are their bites itchy and uncomfortable, but mosquitoes can also carry diseases. However, you don't have to stay indoors all summer and miss out on the warm weather. There are measures that you can take to keep mosquitoes out of your yard so you can spend time outdoors with your family. Use the following tips to help control mosquitoes in your backyard this summer:

Ensure That There Is No Standing Water in Your Yard

A lot of homeowners are unaware of the fact that mosquitoes lay their eggs in water. Thus, if your yard has standing water, it will be much more attractive to mosquitoes that are ready to reproduce. One of the easiest ways to control mosquitoes in your backyard is by eliminating all standing water. During the summer months, it is wise to inspect your yard regularly to look for standing water. If your family uses a small inflatable pool to cool down during hot weather, make sure that you empty it after each use. You should also empty birdbaths during the summer, and check your gutters after it rains to ensure that there are no blockages that cause water to pool.

Utilize Fans

There is nothing like relaxing on your patio or dining outdoors on a beautiful summer evening. However, if your yard is full of mosquitoes, you may not enjoy yourself as much. One way to keep mosquitoes away is by utilizing fans. You may want to consider having an outdoor ceiling fan installed on your patio and also use a couple of oscillating standing fans when your spending time outside. A fan can help control mosquitoes in a couple of ways. The constant breeze from the fan makes it more difficult for mosquitoes to fly in the area. In addition, a fan blows away the carbon dioxide that is produced when a person breathes, so a mosquito will not recognize that there is a feeding source nearby.

Contact a Pest Control Company

If you have a particularly bad mosquito infestation in your yard, you may not be able to get rid of them on your own. In this type of situation, your best bet is to contact a pest control company. A mosquito control company can spray or fog your yard to eliminate the mosquitoes. You may need to arrange to have monthly service during the summer months to keep the mosquitoes away.
