Mosquito Control Treatments That Help You Take Back Your Yard In The Summer

If you're looking forward to a summer of your kids playing outdoors, hosting cookouts, and swimming in the backyard pool, you may want to set up a mosquito control program as soon as summer begins. Mosquitoes ruin your summer fun, and force you to go indoors when the sun goes down. Mosquito bites are itchy and uncomfortable, but even worse, the bites spread disease.

Mosquito control treatments throughout the summer reduce the number of insects so you can enjoy going outside without being bombarded by biting mosquitoes. Plus, with fewer mosquitoes outdoors, there will be fewer inside to bite you in your sleep. Here are ways to keep mosquitoes away from your yard.

Put Dunks In Their Breeding Places

You'll want to eliminate breeding grounds for mosquitoes so they stop reproducing in your yard. This involves dumping out water that collects in toys, planters, and other places in your yard because it only takes a small amount of water for mosquitoes to reproduce.

In addition, the mosquito control company can put dunks in the water features in your yard that kill mosquito larvae so they can't mature into adult mosquitoes. The dunks don't harm other wildlife or your pets, they only work on mosquitoes.

Spray Hiding Places With Insecticide

It's a good idea to create as many sunny places in your yard as possible when you want to eradicate mosquitoes. Mosquitoes love shady, damp places. That's where they gather during the day. A mosquito control company sprays these shady areas when treating your yard so the mosquitoes that come in contact with the plants will be killed.

The insecticide lasts for a few weeks. The length of time they work depends on the type of insecticide used. The mosquito control company might use chemical or natural products, and the natural products need to be applied more often. The insecticides continue to work even after it rains.

These treatments are also safe around kids and pets, but you may be asked to keep pets and kids inside while the mosquito control company is working and for several minutes after they finish to give the insecticide time to dry before they go back outside.

Mow Your Grass

You may want to hire a lawn care company if you have difficulty keeping up with lawn care in the summer. If grass gets too tall, or if weeds take over, your yard has a lot more shade toward the base of your lawn. By keeping your grass trimmed neatly, your yard will get more sun and there will be fewer places for mosquitoes to hide out.

By reducing breeding grounds and allowing sun to reach as much of your yard as possible, you'll make your property less friendly to mosquitoes so the professional mosquito control treatments can be even more effective.
